The Horse Hospital
Video | Poster | Publication
2024

Open the door….What are they doing in there?

Step into the story of The Horse Hospital, an independent art venue in London. This institution boasts a vast archive of rare films and serves as a gateway to a treasure trove of underground artistry.

Initially determined to be the different one without any understanding by the public but still upholding the cherished ethos of The Horse Hospital, one can glimpse the profound and visionary vision of its designers, artists and founder, Mr. Roger K. Burton; By viewing these collections through their eyes; one can traverse the corridors of time—from the institution’s storied past to its vibrant present and onward into the boundless future.

Whether within the walls of The Horse Hospital or beyond, the spirit of ‘being reasonable and demanding the impossible’ endures as an indomitable force, inspiring and leaving a lasting impression on the industry, those who encounter its tale and the generations to come.

The Photogram Presented in the Film
Photogram is a medium that eschews traditional photography by placing an object directly onto the photo paper, a light-sensitive material, and exposing it to light.

The Resulting Flipbook and Poster

The Cigarette Flipbook
Employing the timeless imagery in a cigarette flip book adorned with classic brand designs, I sought to mirror the venue's unique and nonconformist personality.

*2nd Edition released on 30 may 2024

The Riso Printed Poster

The resulting poster showcases the signature caged eyes on the door of the Horse Hospital, rendered through the distinct aesthetic of Riso printing. This process, akin to transforming black and white artwork into stencils, serves as a metaphor for the diverse array of artists, including the visionary founder, Mr. Roger K. Burton. Initially determined to be the different one without any understanding, their journey ultimately revealed the vibrant and unpredictable possibilities inherent in artistic contribution, leaving a lasting impression on both the industry and those who encounter its tale.
